Have you ever thought about the quality of the air your family breathes at home?
There are two commonly employed methods to sanitize and disinfect areas from bacteria and viruses -- chemicals or ultraviolet radiation exposure. Chemicals lurk everywhere in the home, workspace and classroom. Many Americans have dangerously misused household cleaning products during the pandemic, CDC data show. This has led to an uptick in calls to poison centers across the country. From the air we breathe to the surfaces we touch, toxins get into our body and are one of the largest threats to a healthy lifestyle. Constant exposure without detoxifying can increase serious health problems.
BENEFITS OF AN AIRMASTER ULTRA AIR PURIFICATION SYSTEM:
Function Cleans and freshens the air in your home by sterilizing or killing many contaminants and neutralizing unwanted odors. This lamp also uses UV-C light to inactivate and kill bacteria, molds, protozoa, viruses and yeasts. This replacement germicidal bulb has a 4 pin base that is used for air purification. Performance Uses two safe and time-tested technologies: the ultraviolet (UV) light kills many airborne bacteria and molds that contribute to household allergies; the specially designed ozone lamp effectively neutralizes problem odors from pets, cooking and other household sources. Operational status is easily determined at a glance with LED indicators.
Economy
Uses special nonfilament UV lamps that last three times longer than a standard filament lamp. Unit draws just 47 watts-using less power than a standard light bulb. Fail-Safe Features Automatic airflow sensor allows the unit to operate only when air is flowing from your furnace or air conditioning system. Reliability The only maintenance required is periodically changing the lamps, a service performed by your RainSoft dealer.
How an AirMaster Ultra works
UNDERSTANDING AIR PURIFICATION You may be familiar with air filtration products, but the AirMaster Ultra is actually an air purifier. The diagrams below help explain the difference. Air filters are also called “mechanical filters.” They work by trapping particles that are too large to pass through. They collect larger particles, but may not be as effective for many smaller particles. The filters must be changed on a regular basis, as they fill up with the collected debris (much like the bag in a vacuum cleaner). Air purifiers, on the other hand, actually sterilize or kill most contaminants. Both UV and ozone are purification methods. In the AirMaster Ultra, when air passes through the UV light zone , most airborne bacteria and molds are killed. From there the air passes by the ozone lamp, where remaining odors are neutralized. The process happens continuously and silently as your furnace runs, and there are no messy filters to change.
Contact us below about an installation of the AirMaster Ultra to receive a free radon test from American Lung Association at time of installation. Compliments of The Detox Artist.
Radon is a naturally occurring gas that can have a big impact on indoor air quality and your health. You can't see or smell it, and radon can build up inside homes, buildings and schools to dangerous levels. Exposure to high levels of radon can cause lung cancer. EWG's NEW tap water database is here. I originally wrote this article in July 2019, and have just updated it to reflect the new data from Des Moines Water Works. Many people drink tap water straight from their faucet, but did you know there are several contaminants in our tap water? Specifically, for Des Moines, Iowa, I did a quick check on the EWG’s (Environmental Working Group) website which has systematically run water tests and checks throughout Greater Des Moines and the rest of the United States, and it was found that there are approximately seven (7) contaminants within our Des Moines Water Works water supply which, while don't meet EWG (Environmental Working Group) guidelines, are still present in our water, and there are around 10 other detected contaminants in our tap water! Out of these seven (7) contaminants that exceed standards in our tap water, ALL of them are known to increase the risk of cancer. Again, this is all stated in the EWG website. I find this to be a unique tool: all you have to do is click here, punch in your zip code, and it will bring up the results of the water quality tests completed in that area. While Des Moines, IA is in compliance with legally mandated federal standards, there is still one obvious fact: we still have contaminants in our tap water! What kind of contaminants are in our tap water? According to the EWG website, these are the following contaminants in Des Moines, Iowa's water supply which include the eleven ones that exceed health guidelines at the top of the list and the rest that are simply detected in our water supply:
Other contaminants detected:
It's difficult to prioritize the damage and health threat among these contaminants because they are all detrimental to our health, and when combined together day-after-day, the toxin burden to our bodies can cause real damage. The research is profound. Let's look at nitrates alone. According to the Iowa Environmental Council, Iowa nitrate levels are killing us. The top health effects of nitrates in drinking water include:
In June 2019, a EWG peer-reviewed research study estimated cancer cases in each state in America. In Iowa, 300 cancer cases per year are estimated to be directly-related to nitrates in our drinking water. Study here. Beyond nitrates, disinfectants like chlorine used to treat drinking water can react with algae to form byproducts, such as trihalomethanes. These are linked to rectal, bladder, and colon cancers; reproductive health, liver, kidney, and central nervous system problems. How to Clean Dirty Tap Water in Des Moines, IA Luckily for us residing in Greater Des Moines, and the United States, there are many ways we can clean dirty tap water and rid our homes of gross bacteria and other contaminants which could be harboring in your water.

Stepping out of a steamy shower, many people are wrapping up in a freshly laundered bath towel without giving it a second thought. But did you know there's a good number of reasons to air dry because what lurks in your "clean" laundry could actually make you sick? According to The Environmental Working Group, common ingredients in cleaning products have been linked to serious health concerns like asthma, cancer, birth defects, and allergies. Specifically for laundry cleaning supplies, I can run out of breathe naming off the long list of toxic contaminants used in America's popular brands. So what's the problem?Conventional detergents are comprised of a concoction of fragrances, endocrine disruptors (read sabotage hormone function), neurotoxins and potent cancer-causing chemicals. Most detergents have signature fragrances which are designed to impregnate and stay in clothes. The unscented versions add masking chemicals, which simply cover up the fragrance with another chemical. Your laundry room may very well be the most toxic room in your home once these chemicals become airborne when washing and drying your clothes. This is a major problem in light of the fact that scientists are directly linking the alarming rise of degenerative disease in America to exposure to chemicals in our homes and workplaces. Following is a list of common chemicals in laundry detergent products.
Test this at home with hard water
Nice? No. Gross! Soap & FragrancesThe major fillers used in many detergents are insoluble materials that cause accumulation and buildup in laundry, washers, pumps, pipes, drain lines and septic tanks— and they also end up in our waterways. Look for non-toxic yet effective products like Norwex Laundry Detergent which dissolves completely and does not accumulate or build up. If you're cleaning with soft water, lucky you! You can check off unnecessary fillers in your laundry all together and should also look into products like Natural Visions that are especially formulated for Rainsoft soft water households. Just be sure to avoid artificial fragrances - choose unscented.
The real problem is the waterCompounding the problem with the chemicals in the cleaning agents, municipal and tap water is full of contaminants like pharmaceuticals, nitrates, chlorine, herbicides, pesticides, lead, fluoride, arsenic as well as hard minerals like calcium, magnesium and manganese which make it impossible for clothes to be rinsed clean of dirt and oil with just soap. Major chemical companies such as Proctor and Gamble, Lever Bros., and Colgate Palmolive understand that most households have DIRTY WATER, so they produce chemical-laden products that chemically-soften water. <<Read more about Dirty Tap Water and How to Clean It>> In the past, these companies made an unscented powder form, but today they fill plastic containers full of mostly water then add their chemicals and some fragrances and dyes to cover up the chemical smell. Consumers pay high dollar for this "Cleaner". Did you know the average American family spends about $40 to $50 each month on cleaning supplies, roughly calculating to $600 a year? How to clean dirty tap water that's making your laundry dirtier Luckily for us residing in the United States, there are many ways we can clean dirty tap water full of minerals and rid our homes of gross bacteria and other contaminants which could be harboring in your laundry.
Count the ways you and your family use water.
